Hmm. Well, I know he cared about Julia. He may, at one point, have loved her. We’ll never have this information, really.
I’ve never given too much thought as to whether or not Quinn and Julia were ever in a serious relationship. I think that when he found out that Julia was pregnant with his child, he wanted very badly to make it work.
But Julia is a tough goddamn cookie. Her conversation with Saul and her communications with Quinn in deleted scenes make that clear. The romantic in me wants to believe that if Quinn really loved her, he would have moved heaven and earth to make things work. The realist in me knows that Dar Adal had a grip on him that he was never able to entirely shake.
I guess my feeling is that he loved her, definitely. It’s the scope of it that we can’t determine. The how of it.
You don’t have to be in love with the parent of your child in order to love your child. People try to make it work every single day with incompatible partners “for the sake of the kids.”
Lots of people have addressed this in fic, spinning their own stories of Quinn’s relationship with Julia. I think that people ascribe perhaps more importance than is necessary to the fact that he had a child with her. My own personal feelings have always been that it’s more about the kid than the person he had the kid with — Quinn was just lucky that the mother of his child was somebody he could trust.
